I Belong Art Contest 2020
FAQs and Regulations
1. What is I Belong?
I Belong is a volunteer group dedicated to serving communities in the Greater Philadelphia area. We believe that raising the voices of immigrants and facilitating immigrant integration can make a better and more welcoming city.
2. What is the I Belong Art Contest?
This is an open call on Instagram for immigrant artists at any level in the Greater Philadelphia area to showcase their work about immigration. The goal is to support immigrant artists and art to be seen, be included, and recognized. There is no entry fee for participation in the contest.
3. Which is the theme?
The theme is Immigrant Heritage, and it means anything that represents, celebrates, or makes the participant think about their home country.
4. Which categories will the contest have?
This contest will contemplate 3 categories:
Painting \ Drawing: Any painting and drawing technique on any surface, including but not limited to: oil, watercolor, pastel, ink wash, spray, gouache, graphite, colored pencils, charcoal, pens.
Digital Art: Any type of digital painting created with software, including but not limited to Corel Painter, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Procreate.
Photography: Any type of picture taken on analog/digital professional, semi-professional, or cell-phone cameras.
5. Who is eligible to enter?
Our goal is to reach immigrants living in the Greater Philadelphia area. While these criteria will not be enforced, we ask that other individuals wishing to participate refrain from doing so, in order to allow us to highlight Immigrant artists during this time. Submitters must be at least 18 years old.
6. How can I participate?
Post your artwork in your Instagram account using the hashtag #IBelongArtContest2020, mention us using @IBelongPhilly, and follow all the other instructions in the contest post in our Instagram here.
7. How long will the competition run?
We will accept entries until 11:59:59 p.m. ET on November 11, 2020. Winners will be announced in December 2020. If anything changes we will inform here and on Instagram.
8. What are the prizes?
The participants will be running for one prize in each category and a fourth prize for the popular vote.
Category 1: $500, and two-year membership at Da Vinci Art Alliance valued in $295.00 per year
Category 2: $500, and two-year membership at Da Vinci Art Alliance valued in $295.00 per year
Category 3: $500, and two-year membership at Da Vinci Art Alliance valued in $295.00 per year
Popular vote: money prize to be announced
9. How does the judging work?
The winner in each category will be chosen by a judging panel and we will also have a winner from the popular vote.
Selected members of the I Belong will put together a file with all acceptable entries per category and send to the judging panel formed by judges from the arts and non-profit community of Philadelphia.
The judges will rank the best works for each category at their own discretion and in order of preference considering creativity, originality, and adherence to the topic.
The finalists will be contacted by us to share more about the work and their story, and they will be featured on our social media.
We will ask our public (and the artists can invite their friends) to vote on their preferred pieces by giving it a like on Instagram. The most voted has a chance to win a special prize.
The I belong team will tally the results and we will announce the winners for each category and popular vote. If a participant is chosen for a category prize as well as for the popular vote, this winner will receive the category prize and we will give the popular vote for the next most voted in social media.
10. How many entries can be submitted per participant?
Participants can submit one entry, the artist is responsible for choosing their best work to post.
11. Will I retain ownership of my work if I enter the contest?
By entering the contest, you give I Belong the right to share your work on our social media channels and website. You retain the right to sell, promote, or use your work for other purposes. We may use your name or any other biographical information provided in your entry for these same purposes. We will seek your consent to use any further information, such as your picture.
The artist must acknowledge that the artwork is an original artwork, and does not violate the intellectual property rights of others. You can also use the same art piece entered in other competitions if you have the reproduction rights.
12. How am I going to be notified and receive my prize if I win?
Winners will be announced on Instagram. Cash prizes will be awarded as gift cards or other forms of payment made out to the participant. Other prizes will be delivered on the winners’ informed address in Philadelphia.
